The eyebrows play a major role in conveying expression. However, if they are droopy or sagging, then they may seem to always convey the same expressions: tired and angry.

A brow lift not only helps raise the position of the brows but can also make the eyes appear more open and alert.

Dr. Gentile performs three different types of brow lifts in order to address patient’s concerns. Read below to find out more about the different brow lift techniques and Dr. Gentile’s approach to the cosmetic procedure. About Brow Lifts

A brow lift is performed in order to raise the position of the brows on the face. It is not designed to draw attention to the brows, but rather, it should draw attention where the attention should be – to the eyes. Following a brow lift, patients will no longer look tired or angry; instead, they will look alert and at ease.

Dr. Gentile performs brow lifts that appear very natural. He provides patient with long-lasting results that don’t appear overly taut or stretched.

Dr. Gentile doesn’t believe his patients should look like they’ve had plastic surgery. Rather, they should look like they just got the most amazing night’s rest.

Good Candidates

Patients concerned with the positioning of their eyebrows, believing that they droop too low, may be considered good candidates for a brow lift. In general, candidates should be in good health and have realistic expectations for the outcome of the procedure. The majority of our brow lift patients are between the ages of 40 and 70. However, what matters most are one’s physiological age and not the chronological age. Men and women over the age of 38 interested in a brow lift are encouraged to come in for a consultation. Brow Lift Techniques

The amount of brow drooping is referred to as the degree of ptosis. The patient’s degree of brow ptosis, along with other factors such as skin elasticity, will determine which technique will be best for the patient’s individual case. Dr. Gentile is highly skilled in performing all three techniques and works closely with his patients to determine the best technique for their body and lifestyle.

The main differentiating factors between these three different techniques are the incision and access to the surgical area.

While most patients desire smaller incisions, larger incisions may be necessary to achieve the patient’s desired results. It is important to keep in mind that Dr. Gentile hides all of the incisions along the hairline, where they will be least noticeable.

Coronal

A coronal brow lift, sometimes called an “open” brow lift or traditional brow lift, is a commonly performed brow lift technique. In this procedure, longer incisions are made across the hairline, providing the doctor with the greatest access to the surgical area. This procedure will offer the most comprehensive results to patients who are experiencing a large degree of ptosis.

Endoscopic

An endoscopic brow lift is the least invasive type of brow lift. It is performed using an endoscope and a camera. This allows Dr. Gentile to see the surgical area on a screen. The incisions used in an endoscopic brow lift are much smaller. However, the results will not be as dramatic, since the doctor won’t be able to gain as much access to the brows. It is a good option for patients with minimal ptosis of the brows.

Temporal

A temporal brow lift aims to lift the outer third of the eyebrows. This procedure helps make the eyes appear larger, more alert, and vibrant. It requires smaller incisions than a coronal brow lift. In most instances, a temporal brow lift is combined with an endoscopic brow lift for optimal results.

The Day of Surgery

A brow lift procedure typically takes about two hours from start to finish. It can be performed under local with sedation or general anesthesia, both of which will keep the patient comfortable for the duration of the procedure. The best anesthesia for the case will be determined by the patient, doctor, and anesthesiologist. Dr. Gentile will start by making the appropriate incisions, depending on the technique to be utilized. Then, he will lift and tighten the skin to raise the position of the eyebrows.

The patient will be taken into a recovery room following the surgery. They will be monitored by our friendly and knowledgeable staff until they wake up from anesthesia. Following the procedure, they can return home. However, they should have a friend or family member pick them up, as they will not be able to drive themselves.

Recovery

Following a brow lift, patient’s brows and forehead area will be bandaged. Patients will be provided with prescriptions to help ease any discomfort following surgery. These should be filled prior to the surgery date. Tylenol can also help with discomfort.

Bruising and swelling will dissipate over the course of one to two weeks. In order to minimize these side effects, patients should keep their head elevated as much as possible. During this time, the incisions will also begin to fade.

After one to two weeks, patients will be free to return to work.

Patients recovering from an endoscopic brow lift may be able to return to work sooner. If any bruising remains, they can mask it with light makeup. Strenuous physical activity should be avoided for the first few weeks.

At the time of the consultation, Dr. Gentile will be able to provide the patient with more detailed recovery information for their specific case. Recovery will also vary depending on the technique that the doctor uses. For example, an endoscopic brow lift will require less recovery time than a coronal brow lift.

All patients are required to come in for follow-up appointments in order to ensure that they are healing properly and remove any necessary sutures. However, most of the time sutures are self-absorbable.

Complementing Procedures

At the time of the consultation, Dr. Gentile will advise the patient on the procedure or complementary procedures that will best help them attain their cosmetic goals.

Forehead Lift

A forehead lift can be performed to lift the forehead in patients who have smaller foreheads or to decrease the size of the forehead in patients who have wide foreheads. It is also performed in order to smooth horizontal forehead wrinkles and vertical frown lines. Generally, a forehead lift automatically includes a brow lift as well, but a brow lift does not automatically include a forehead lift.

Blepharoplasty

A brow lift raises the eyebrows, but it will not significantly raise the eyelids. Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, is a procedure that raises eyelids that droop or sag or address under eye puffiness. Blepharoplasty uses small incisions in the eye creases or within the eyelids to remove excess skin, fat, and tissue from the eyelids. The procedure can be performed on the upper and/or lower eyelids. Blepharoplasty, like brow lifts, can help improve vision by removing drooping skin from around the eyes and make the patient look more alert.

Facelift

A brow lift is a good procedure for those who are only showing signs of ptosis and aging in the upper third portion of their face. However, many people find that the visage as a whole ages at the same rate. Patients with all-over signs of facial aging may benefit most from a facelift. A facelift uses discreet incisions around the hairline and along the ears in order to access the tissue beneath the skin. It can be used to all-encompassing rejuvenating effect.

Consultation

A consultation is important in order to determine whether or not the patient is a good candidate for a brow lift and whether or not their specific goals can be reached. Dr. Gentile will meet personally with the patient in order to discuss the procedure, why the patient is interested in a brow lift, and what they hope to achieve. He will take photographs and perform a physical examination in order to further analyze the patient’s case.

It is very important that patients have realistic expectations for the outcome of their procedure. Dr. Gentile will spend ample time discussing the possible outcomes of the surgery.

Dr. Gentile will provide the patient with photographs of other brow lift patients so that they can better visualize the outcome of their procedure. He may also recommend alternative or additional procedures that will best help the patient achieve their goals. If the patient has any questions or concerns, they should be addressed at this time.

At the end of the consultation, Dr. Gentile will develop a comprehensive surgical plan, including personalized pre-operative instructions, post-operative instructions, and what to expect on the day of surgery. At this time, cost can also be discussed. The price will vary depending on the techniques utilized and whether or not the patient undergoes any additional procedures.
